Considering A Family Visit In Buffalo This Winter? There Are Many Fun Things To Do.

If you are a snow lover, there are many winter activities for you to enjoy in Buffalo. For starters, nothing beats attending a Buffalo Bills football game in late December or early January. Feel the power of more than seventy thousand psychotic fans hollering for their football team while the snow is flying. Start your game day experience by partying in the parking lot prior to the game. Chow down on some of those Buffalo wings. Guzzle some great Canadian beer or get some local lager from a microbrewery.

Snowmobiling is a very popular winter activity in Buffalo. There are plenty of snowmobile dealers to satisfy the demands of this excitement loving industry. People like to load up their sleds on trailers and tow them into the really rural areas in New York State for some serious trail riding. They take week long excursions just to do some riding. Other people like to use the sled as a means to go bar hopping. Heck, even the police have snow machines now. They chase these bar hoppers around dishing out tickets for driving while intoxicated.

Are you a skier? Skiing has become a very popular way to make the best of the Buffalo cold weather. There are several good slopes in the greater Western New York region. Excellent skiers will tell you that the ski slopes near Buffalo are on the small side and nowhere near challenging enough. However, the people who live locally sure seem to make the best of them. I guess you could consider it a great place for beginners. Even if you really don’t want to ski, there is still the warm lodge where you can meet other people with similar interests.

Snowboarding has become a very popular national sport in the USA. It has also become popular around the Buffalo area. In the early 1990s you would only have seen a few snowboarders here and there on the ski slopes. Now they are far more common. Just like skiing, the rolling hills south and east of Buffalo provide adequate quality slopes for beginning snowboarders to practice on.

The greater Buffalo area is fairly well known for its whitetail deer population. Deer hunting in the rural areas surrounding Buffalo usually brings in some high scoring bucks. This is actually a late fall sport more so than winter. Big game hunting season ends in most areas before winter officially starts. The deer number has exploded over recent decades to provide a hunting environment that is more productive than ever. This sport is so popular that many local high schools end up missing a huge chunk of their students during the first week of the hunting season.

For children, the cold and snowy winters in Buffalo are a blast. There are countless ways for children to have fun outside in the snow. Some kids will their fair share of the traditional backyard sledding. Others will find a giant snow mound to carve a tunnel into. There is the ever popular snowball fight with the other children who live nearby. For active kids there is an athletic sport called pond hockey. Actually it is an old kids’ playtime activity turned into a sport. There are lots of really great parks where families can go sledding for free. You really don’t need to be a rocket scientist to come up with a great idea for enjoying the winter when you are in Buffalo.
