With an area of over 220 square miles, the Isle of Man is a small island in the Irish Sea. This doesn’t mean you can see and do everything on the island in one day, though. In fact, there are many attractions and activities that can make your Isle of Man holidays worthwhile.

The Laxey Wheel

Also known as Lady Isabella, the Laxey Wheel is a major Isle of Man tourist attraction, particularly since it is the largest working waterwheel in the world. There is another waterwheel in the Laxey Glen Gardens known as Lady Evelyn or the Snaefell Wheel, which became operational again in 2006 after nearly a century of being set aside.

Steam Trains

The Isle of Man has its own steam railway, so make sure you hop aboard a steam train during your Isle of Man holidays. This is a special treat for the kids, who will surely be happy to know that the Thomas the Tank Engine movie was filmed on the Isle of Man. There is also a Thomas the Tank Weekend held in September to honor the beloved fictional character.

Motorsport

The TT Races, the most famous road race in the world, are held every year on the Isle of Man, making it a great destination for motorsport lovers and thrill seekers alike. There are several other races you can catch, too, as well as bike and car rallies.

Birdwatching

The Isle of Man is a birdwatcher’s paradise so make sure you bring your binoculars when you spend your Isle of Man holidays. This way, you can observe the peregrines, ravens and terns which stop by to rest or nest on the island, as well as black guillemots and sandpipers.

Scuba Diving

When you’re done touring the island attractions, take a plunge into the spectacular underwater scenery around the Isle of Man. Aside from clear waters, the sea around the island offers amazing wildlife, including a group of plankton-eating sharks.

Golf

There are nine picturesque golf courses on the Isle of Man, each with a different style and presenting a different challenge. The most popular is the Castletown Golf Links which was once included in Golf World Magazine’s list of top 100 golf courses of the world. The Ramsey Golf Course is a good choice, too.

Museums

Last, but not the least, there are various museums you can tour while on the island, such as the Grove Museum and the Manx Museum. These museums offer some unique and interesting exhibits so your Isle of Man holidays can be educational as well as exciting and memorable.
