FROM MARRAKECH TO ESSAOUIRA
MOROCCO IS CHANGING FAST
With Betoya bay it will open their borders for import and export.
It is a big site of a complete integrated complex of port, a storage capacity of one to two million tonnes, an energy platform dedicated solely to export and import. The complex will comprise a deepwater port, container transhipment, packaging of the merchandise etc. Morocco is determinate to take fully advantage of all opportunities to sell their products. Also all the handicrafts, such as carpets, metal works like the Moroccan lamps and other home decoration will have advantage of a better shipment and packaging. So far this always was a big problem for all the buyers of these products. It arrived broken on the destination.
The Moroccan culture is vibrant.
Up till today Marrakech has been known for its tradition, its authenticity and its historical and natural heritage. The daily life has not been influenced by the modern life. This is what vacations tourists attracts coming to Morocco. Marrakech now has a thriving restaurant and nightlife scene, growing fashion and retail sector and a unique mix of colourful characters. Since the hippies in the sixties until the fashionistas with their bohemian style of today, the Djelaba (formless long robe) is a fashion item in a wardrobe. The elegant restaurants and restored old Ryads still have the Couscous on their menu. It is an appreciated vegetarian dish, and served in a new way, less overcooked and with lots of herbs, prunes etc. and served with a Harissa sauce (hot spicy red peppers). Also the old Berber music tunes are remixed these days into a new rhythmic house beat and since the Pasha Discotheque from Ibiza also opened their doors in Marrakech, this beat is back and is changing al the time its structure.
The Atlantic coastline is the new place to be. Near the city of Tan Tan, in the region of Guelmin, just a few acres away from the Sahara dessert, new seaside resorts are being developed and are initiated by big investors. The second big resort arrives as an addition to Agadir, which is so far the Kingdoms only, established seaside resort.
Would it not be fantastic if ESSAOUIRA will house some elegant boutique hotels at its promenade and some comfortable lounge chairs at the beaches for the sunbathers?
This would for sure strengthen the tourist industry in Marrakech. Tourists will than have the possibility to spent part of their time in the ancient medina of Marrakech and can then unwind in a modern designed hotel with 5 star services and a private beach. It would almost feel like a culture chock.
Since some time many Ryads (Arabian palaces and old houses built around a patio, all windows are facing this patio. The outside walls are like a fortress without windows). Are bought by foreigners who rebuilt them and make them their second home. Many of these Ryads are turned into Maison de hotel. A good example is RYAD DYOR Hotel Marrakech. It is located in the middle of the medina, with the souks for all your shopping around the corner. This boutique Ryad is like a meeting place for many of the D.Js. who frequent the Pasha discoth¸que, stylists and photographers from magazines as Elle who are using Marrakech and the Ryad Dyor resort as a back ground for their fashion publications. Journalists from travel magazines like Conde Nast Traveller who visited Ryad Dyor are enthusiastic and inspired and felt that the place was like a personal palace nestled peacefully in this bustling city.
As Essaouira is such a fresh getaway for a day, Ryad Dyor resort Marrakech organises day trips with car and private chauffeur for their guests. It is one of the favourite tours. From Marrakech to Essaouira is about 3 hours drive. The village has a busy and well-maintained medina, a harbour with fishing boats, and a promenade along the blue and grey Atlantic Ocean with some nice fish restaurants. Here you can eat the freshest fish and sea fruit and Moroccan salads at reasonable prices. It is worth the trip.
Essaouira is now very much in demand by foreigners who are looking for a peace of ground to built a little hotel or who are trying to find old farmhouses to restore as a second home Big investors already made their plans to develop this part of Atlantic coast. We hope this will be designed with respect for the environment and the sites fauna and flora.
