The San Francisco 49ers are one of those teams that people are familiar with, even if you are not a sports fanatic. This team is passionate about the game, and have won many championship titles and broken multiple records to prove it. After their 2008 season, the team underwent some staffing and player changes, which fans and management are looking forward to in the new season - 2009. These changes, along with the teams’ dedication and fan loyalty, should give sports enthusiasts a good show this year.

49er fans are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the final changes, along with draft picks, as these changes only mean their team will have an amazing year. Season tickets are already in high demand, before fans even know who is going to be playing for them. There is no doubt that the 2009 season will be a sell-out, and procrastinators will be left on the streets during home games.

Back in the day, not too long after WWII, the West Coast was nearly barren of sports leagues; the East Coast and the Midwest were home to the majority of sport teams. Anthony Morabito was the first to begin attracting attention, to the West Coast, by the NFL.

Morabito requested an NFL franchise for the city of San Francisco, to put the West Coast on the maps in sports. However, the NFL quickly turned him down, as they did not feel this was a profitable move for their league. Anthony was aware of the news about the AFL and quickly aligned himself with this venture.

Finding the right identity, for his new team, would prove to be a daunting task, but he and his partners worked day and night until they found one. Inspiration finally came from a painting of a miner holding a gun. This is where the San Francisco 49ers got their name, this and the significance of the time the team was formed was in memory of the miners from the Gold Rush era.

It was not until the AFL and NFL merger that the 49ers became an NFL franchise. This is when the team became noticed and ticket sales began to skyrocket. After many years of fighting and hard work, Morabito finally had his dream NFL franchise.

The past couple of years have been a bit rough on the team. Their starter quarterback - Alex Smith - was injured early in the 2007 season, and has been on the sidelines since. After 1 1/2 years of rest, he has signed a new 2-year contract, with the 49ers, and should be ready to start the 2009 season off right. With Smith back in action, the 49ers can win their way back to one of the top teams in the league.

In the 60 years that the San Francisco 49ers have been playing football, the team has accomplished 5-Super Bowl wins, 17-Division Championship titles, and 5-Conference Championship titles. There is no doubt that the 49ers know how to play and they do it well. Fans, as always, eagerly await the approach of the 2009 season. There is no doubt that tickets will be hard to come by as they will sell quicker than they ever have before.
