If you believe that the best African experience is the safari, then my friend you are wrong. In order to really experience Africa, you must visit the crown jewel of Africa: South Africa. With cities like cape town teeming with people and life to the beautiful desert inland, to the mountains climbing up through clouds, to the ship wreck coast of the Cape.of Good Hope.

Take walks along the truly sensational beaches. Get to know whales up close and personal. Take a trip through astoundingly magnificent rocky inland. Go trekking up mountains which climbs up through the sky.

About South Africa: South Africa is rightly termed as the crown jewel of the African continent. Beaches, mountains, rocky wastelands. South Africa has great scenic views and trendy restaurants. There is a really active nightlife. The people are really befriending. It is such a great place with the juxtaposition of modern cities along with nature. All the things a family look for while going for a holiday is present here. There is just so much to see. From the bustling city of Cape Town to the sandy beaches. Go trekking up a mountain or rocky inland. After coming back, just kick back and relax watching the gigantic whales.

Even after the country gained its independence the minorities of settlers from Europe were in control and ran the country in a very racist and segregated way. This finally changed in 1994 when black people gained complete political rights and were finally granted equality. A interesting fact about South Africa is that it is the only continuously democratic government in all of Africa and it is the only country that has created nuclear weapons and dismantled them on its own free will.

Nearby Robben Island is just a short trip in a boat from the harbor. Historically, the island is one of South Africa?s most important places. Initially home to the Dutch East India Company, or VOC, as a provision depot, it has also seen use as both an asylum and home for ostracized lepers. Eventually the site was controlled by the military. In 1960 the island came under the jurisdiction of the Department of Correctional Services as a prison. It was during this time that ? for 20 years ? President Nelson Mandela was detained there.

The Castle of Good Hope, recognized as the oldest structure in South Africa can be found in the city center, along with many museums. Nearby are Bo-Kaap?s cobblestone streets. This area houses the nation?s first mosque and is still home to many quaint ancient buildings. Standing in stark contrast to these is the oldest home and vineyard on the Cape: Groot Constantia. The site can be found on the aptly named Constantia Wine Route, which physically, historically and culturally links it to the famous vineyards of Helderberg and Durbanville.

Anyone wishing to see the plentiful flowers and plants of the Cape can do so by driving a short distance from all of the movie theaters, amusement parks, shopping centers and entertainment venues to get back to nature. There are a number of climbs which will suit the more energetic person, such as heading to the top of Table Mountain or Lion?s Head. Nature Reserves are also an option with Silvermine, Tygerberg, Newlands Forest, the Cape of Good Hope and Helderberg all nearby ? along with some excellent inner-city natural areas.
