Ski trips are no longer the bare bones experience common in the 1970s and 80s. Now ski resorts spanning Colorado, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming are in a quiet race to craft the best ski vacation experience.
The previous ten years has brought continual expansion to western ski resorts. They have expanded their size, quality, and breadth of services. Deer Valley Resort in Park City, UT and Vail Resort in Vail, Colorado have risen to the top of the ski resort show down. Deer Valley Resort has been ranked the #1 Ski Resort in North America by the readers of Ski Magazine in 2009, 2008, 2007, 2005, and 2001. Vail Resort held the honor in 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006.
Deer Valley focuses on the quality of its well groomed trails, on mountain services, and on mountain restaurants to retain its #1 ranking. The resort prides itself on its award winning lunch menu as well as its fine dining restaurants open every evening during the ski season. The restaurants are located in Deer Valley Resorts elegant ski lodges.
Options at Deer Valleys 3 upscale dining restaurants include continental and European cuisine at Mariposa, fresh seafood at the Seafood Buffet, and Swiss selections at Fireside Dining. Mariposa consistently receives top reviews with the Seafood Buffet and Fireside Dining not far behind.
Park City has also added many fine dining restaurants as well as hundreds of new luxury ski accommodations. The modern traveler demands a decidedly improved experience than the traditional ski trip lodging options and restaurants were able to provide.
Because of the recent transition towards a more distinguished palate, area restaurants have responded by introducing a rich dining experience worthy of high honors. Distinguished rating agencies such as the Michelin Travel Guide, Mobile Travel Guide, and Zagat Restaurant Guide have awarded Deer Valley area restaurants with their best ratings.
My favorite restaurant is the Goldener Hirsch Restaurant due to its timeless Austrian decor and the delicious cheese fondue appetizer. The Goldener Hirsch Restaurant is located in the Goldener Hirsch Inn situated in the Silver Lake Village area of Deer Valley. The Glitretind Restaurant is another highly rated option which is located in the world renowned Stein Eriksen Lodge.
Living up to its number 1 ski resort reputation, Deer Valley Resort absolutely will not disappoint. No matter what your personal preference you will definitely be able to find something to your liking both on and off the mountain. Deer Valley is definitely worth a closer examination. Two thumbs up!
