The Pedregal beach is not that far away if you like sun bathing on the sand. It is unswimmable though because of the undercurrents of the Pacific Ocean.
Medano Beach is the only public swimmable beach in Cabo San Lucas. You can take a walk to Lovers Beach and get a water taxi for a few dollars. This will take you to Medano Beach.
Being the only swimmable beach it is very busy. You have plenty of tourists there, and you get a lot of vendors.
You can enjoy some jet skiing there as-well-as some swimming, and pay a visit to The Office. The Office is a nice little beach restaurant that serves good food.

If you want to go out a lot a Cabo car rental is a good idea. Save yourself some money with this as the cab fares can add up.
You'll give yourself much more freedom, and you'll be able to try out some Cabo San Lucas Activities. Swim with some dolphins or go on an ATV tour. There's plenty of opportunity for adventure in this beautiful part of Mexico.
